5 Ways to Stay Motivated to Workout this Summer

Finding a workout routine that keeps you motivated can be challenging, and even discouraging, especially in the summer. There's always so much going on in the summer that you may find yourself feeling too busy to stick to your routine. It's hard finding the right balance between all of the summer time fun and your health goals. We know how you feel. We've been there, too! This week I have been feeling off, and desperately needed some motivation! So, we're sharing some of our tips to keep you motivated this summer, while still having fun.

1. Find a Friend.

If you're going to make time for drinks with your bestie, why not schedule some quality gym time, too?! Having a friend to workout with is a great way to stay motivated. You can help each other stay on track. Even outside of working out, you can even get together and find new healthy recipes to try together. After your workouts, you'll need to make some post-workout food, so why not with your new workout partner?

2. Treat Yourself

Another one of our favorite ways  to stay motivated is to treat yourself! We deserve a reward for all of hard work and staying on track, right? Or we need to treat ourselves to get us back on track... Hello new workout clothes! Whenever I'm in a workout slump, I buy myself a new workout outfit. How can you resist not working out in your new cute workout gear? Treating yourself doesn't necessarily have to be new workout clothes. Maybe a mani/pedi day, or you splurge on a new pair of summer sandals, like these. {SO CUTE- Might be my next splurge!}

3. Mix Up Your Routine

Doing the same routine OVER and OVER again can be pretty boring. How many squats, sit-ups, lunges, or miles can you possibly do before you're thinking, is this over yet? There is NO reason to put your body through something it does not enjoy. I REPEAT. NO reason to put your body through something it does not enjoy. Got it? Okay. If you're not happy, your body probably isn't happy either, and that's just no fun. So mix it up.  Maybe you feel like lifting one day, and then running the next? It doesn't really matter what type of workout you do, as long as you're having fun doing it, and you're keeping it interesting. Keep mixing it up, and I'm sure you'll eventually find a workout that you're always looking forward to!

4. Find a Class

There are so many gyms that offer your first class free. This is a great way to stay motivated and try new classes! Some places that offer your first class free are Soul Cycle, Pure Barre, Spenga, and Orange Theory. I'm sure the list could go on and on! You can make it a goal for yourself to try one new workout class a month! There are also so many fun workout events that you can go to. A few months ago, we went to Namaste and Rosé , a yoga class with rosé at the end! It was such a fun way to spend our Saturday morning!

5. Rest and Listen to Your Body

Did you ever think that maybe you're feeling unmotivated because your body is physically tired? There's a fine line between working out too much, and too little. It's so important to listen to your body, and rest when you need it. You're not going to see any extra progress if you over work your body. It's just going to cause you to be more discouraged and more tired. So let's say your period of rest is extending over a week, maybe you need some motivation to get back in the gym {Good thing we shared four other ways above} But, if you just need a week off of working out, and enjoying wine and quality time with friends, no sweat. {Literally. I hope you all caught my joke. I think I'm so funny.}

Hopefully, these five ways to stay motivated help. Working out should be fun! Not everyone has to do the same workout to be  healthy and "in shape". Find what works best for you! What are some ways you stay motivated? We'd love for you to share!

  1. Really good advice. Everything you talk about makes sense, and I will use it going forward to get my workout mindset right! Instead of stepping on the scale, progress pictures are a good way to stay motivated!!
